An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the man proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.
She stated the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
