Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
