The star has given the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the United Kingdom's small music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was named the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots played in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to challenges stemming from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.

Additionally the 1994 recipients they gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Winning was ample," said vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected two small stages in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
